DRDE BioTank Technology
Conventional septic tanks do not break down waste completely. The Defence Research & Development Establishment (DRDE), Gwalior — an R&D organisation of DRDO — has developed bacterial inoculums for sewage treatment under diverse geo-climatic conditions. The technology, named 'BioTank', is an excellent low-cost alternative to conventional septic tanks: a zero-waste bio-digester that breaks down human excreta completely into usable water and gas through an anaerobic process.
